Steeped in mythology and history, the reserve takes its name from the ancient Bandhavgarh Fort that rises dramatically above the forest. According to legend, Lord Rama gifted this fort to his younger brother Lakshmana, his bandhav, giving the forest its name, Bandhavgarh, literally meaning "Brother's Fort."
For centuries, the fort has overlooked these forests, where wildlife now moves freely among ancient temples, caves and stone carvings. Nowhere is this connection between history and wilderness more evident than in the famous Tala Zone, the oldest and most celebrated part of the reserve. Known for its breathtaking scenery and legendary tiger sightings, Tala has played a defining role in establishing Bandhavgarh as one of India's premier tiger destinations.
Bandhavgarh supports one of the highest densities of tigers in the country. The compact nature of the park, combined with its varied terrain of bamboo forests, Sal woodlands, open grasslands and rocky hills, creates ideal habitat for these magnificent predators. Every valley, meadow and stream seems to hold the promise of an unforgettable encounter.
Yet Bandhavgarh is far more than a tiger reserve. Leopards quietly patrol the rocky slopes, Sloth Bears forage beneath fruiting trees, Wild Dogs occasionally sweep across open meadows and large herds of Chital, Sambar and Gaur thrive throughout the forest. More than 250 species of birds add another dimension to every safari, rewarding those who pause to look beyond the larger mammals.

The afternoon safari offers an excellent introduction to Bandhavgarh. Sunlight filters through towering Sal trees while open meadows attract grazing deer and langurs keep a watchful eye from the forest canopy. It doesn't take long to understand why this reserve has earned such an extraordinary reputation among wildlife enthusiasts.
Return to the resort after sunset for dinner and overnight stay.

Life soon settles into the familiar rhythm of the forest.
Before sunrise, the reserve is calm and expectant.
Fresh pugmarks often appear on dusty tracks, birds announce the arrival of a new day and the forest slowly awakens as the first rays of sunlight filter through the trees.
Each morning and afternoon safari explores a different part of the reserve.
Between drives, return to the lodge to rest and enjoy a leisurely meal before heading out again later in the day.
With another full day in the wilderness, there is time to explore beyond the most familiar routes and follow fresh signs of animal movement.
One drive may take you through dense bamboo valleys where alarm calls echo through the forest, while another leads across open grasslands where herds of Chital and Sambar remain constantly alert.
Bandhavgarh has a habit of creating memorable moments without warning.
A dominant male may appear silently around a bend, a Leopard may briefly reveal itself on a rocky hillside or a family of Sloth Bears may wander across the track before disappearing into the undergrowth.
Between safaris, return to the comfort of the lodge for leisurely meals and time to relax before heading back into the forest once again.
