People often ask me what they should watch before joining one of our safaris.
My answer is simple, watch everything you can.
The best wildlife documentaries don't simply showcase spectacular animals; they teach you to observe behaviour, understand ecosystems and appreciate the subtle interactions that most people miss in the field.
Many of these films inspired me long before I ever became a safari guide. Some are cinematic masterpieces. Others changed conservation forever. Together, they represent the finest wildlife filmmaking ever produced.

From the Naturalist's Diary
After hundreds of safaris, I've realised that the guests who notice the most in the forest are rarely the ones carrying the biggest cameras, they're usually the ones who've spent time watching good wildlife documentaries.
They recognise the tension before a hunt begins. They understand why a herd suddenly falls silent, why a leopard pauses before climbing a tree, or why a tigress gently nudges her cubs towards cover.
That's the magic of great wildlife filmmaking. It doesn't replace the wilderness; it prepares you for it. And when you finally find yourself watching those same behaviours unfold in front of you, you realise the greatest documentaries were never about spectacular images—they were teaching you how to truly see the wild.
