What is Dhikala?+
Dhikala is the most famous tourism zone within Jim Corbett National Park and is widely regarded as one of the finest wildlife experiences in India.
Unlike most national parks where guests stay outside the forest, Dhikala allows you to spend the night deep inside the core area, surrounded by grasslands, riverine forests and the Ramganga Reservoir. It is an experience unlike any other in India.
Where is Dhikala located?+
Dhikala lies approximately 30 km inside Corbett National Park from the Dhangarhi Gate.
Simply reaching the forest rest house is an experience in itself, as the drive passes through some of Corbett's finest wildlife habitat.
Which is the nearest airport?+
The nearest airports are:
• Pantnagar (Approx. 2.5 to 3 hours)
• Dehradun (Approx. 4 hours)
• Delhi (Approx. 5 to 5 hours)
Most guests travelling from across India prefer flying into Delhi.
Which railway station should we use?+
The nearest railway station is:
• Ramnagar (Approx. 25-30 minutes)
Ramnagar is well connected with Delhi and several major cities.
Why is Dhikala so famous?+
Dhikala offers something that very few wildlife destinations in the world can.
You stay inside the heart of the national park, wake up to deer grazing outside your room, listen to elephants calling at dawn and begin your safari without ever leaving the forest.
The vast Dhikala grasslands, Ramganga Reservoir and exceptional diversity of wildlife make it one of India's greatest wilderness experiences.
Is Dhikala a luxury lodge?+
No.
Dhikala Forest Rest House is a government-run forest rest house, not a luxury resort.
Rooms are simple, clean and functional with basic amenities. The experience is all about the location, wildlife and atmosphere rather than luxury.
Why is it so difficult to get a booking?+
Dhikala is one of the hardest wildlife accommodations to book anywhere in India.
Only a very small number of rooms are released online for each date, while hundreds of people attempt to book them the moment reservations open.
Because of this enormous demand, room confirmations can never be guaranteed, even if booking is attempted the instant reservations open.
When do Dhikala bookings open?+
For Indian nationals, bookings generally open approximately 45 days before the date of stay.
For non Indian nationals, bookings generally open approximately 90 days before the date of stay.
Should we book our flights before Dhikala is confirmed?+
No.
We strongly recommend waiting until your Dhikala accommodation has been confirmed before booking flights or paying for other hotels and travel arrangements.
This helps avoid unnecessary cancellation charges should the forest accommodation not be secured.
How many nights can we stay at Dhikala?+
The Forest Department currently permits a maximum stay of 3 nights at Dhikala.
Most guests choose 2 or 3 nights to fully experience the area.
Can anyone do a jeep safari inside Dhikala?+
No.
This is one of the most important rules to understand.
Jeep safaris within the Dhikala Zone are permitted only for guests staying inside the Dhikala tourism area.
Visitors staying at hotels outside the park are not permitted to undertake jeep safaris in Dhikala.
This exclusivity is one of the main reasons why Dhikala remains so sought after.
Do we have to stay only at Dhikala Forest Rest House?+
No.
The Dhikala tourism area includes several Forest Department accommodations.
Guests staying at Dhikala Forest Rest House, Sultan Forest Rest House, Gairal Forest Rest House and Sarpduli Forest Rest House are all permitted to undertake jeep safaris within the Dhikala tourism zone.
Availability at all of these properties is extremely limited.
What if we cannot get Dhikala accommodation?+
Corbett has several outstanding tourism zones including:
• Bijrani
• Jhirna
• Dhela
• Garjia
• Durga Devi
These zones offer excellent wildlife experiences as day safaris while staying at comfortable resorts outside the park.
Some zones even allow night stay at Forest Rest houses.
Although different from the Dhikala experience, they remain excellent alternatives.
How many nights do you recommend?+
For the complete Corbett experience, we generally recommend:
• 2 to 3 nights inside Dhikala, if accommodation is secured.
or
• 4 to 5 nights combining Dhikala with one or two additional Corbett zones.
What wildlife can we expect?+

Many guests also consider its elephant sightings equally memorable.

• Afternoon Jeep Safari
Timings vary throughout the year depending on sunrise and sunset.
Can we bring our cameras?+
Absolutely.
Dhikala is a paradise for wildlife photographers.

Expect:

BSNL, Airtel and Jio may occasionally work, but there is generally no reliable internet or Wi-Fi.
Many guests consider this one of the greatest joys of staying inside the forest.

Can we get out of the safari vehicle?+
No.
Guests must remain inside the safari vehicle unless instructed otherwise by Forest Department officials.
Within the forest rest house campus, guests may move around only within designated areas and must follow all safety instructions, as wildlife frequently enters the campus.

Absolutely.

What if we don't see a tiger?+
You'll still have experienced one of India's greatest wildernesses.
Watching elephant herds emerge from the grasslands, seeing crocodiles bask along the Ramganga, listening to the calls of hundreds of birds and spending the night deep inside the forest are experiences that very few places in the world can offer.
Every stay at Dhikala becomes memorable for reasons far beyond tiger sightings.
Any final advice?+
Plan well in advance and remain flexible.
Because accommodation is so limited, securing a stay at Dhikala requires patience, persistence and a little luck. If you're fortunate enough to obtain a booking, you'll experience one of India's most exclusive and unforgettable wildlife adventures.
Come prepared for simple living, disconnect from the outside world, embrace the rhythm of the forest and enjoy a wilderness experience that has inspired generations of naturalists and wildlife lovers.
