Hidden in the elephant grass, lurks a beast. Waiting, watching, suddenly he springs! Catching an unaware sambar, the tiger emerges victorious. Yet another day concludes, as the sun sets on the magical Terai…
In the marshy grasslands of the Terai, lies an unexplored paradise. Known to few, Dudhwa carries the legacy of the legend, Billy Arjan Singh. With lush Sal canopies, vast meadows of elephant grass, and one of the best views nature has to offer, Dudhwa is home to India’s finest patch of forest.
What to expect?
One of the finest examples of conservation in India, Dudhwa is truly a wildlifer’s paradise. Apart from being a success story of reintroducing tigers and the one horned rhinoceros into the wild, it is also one of the strongholds of a healthy population of the vulnerable barasinga. Boasting of 300+ bird species, it is one of the best places for birdwatching in India. Other than tigers, the park is also home to mammals like the sloth bear, leopards, fishing cat, leopard cat and numerous deer species. The mosaic of high forest vegetation interspersed with grasslands is truly a treat! On this iconic journey into this veritable treasure trove of wildlife, deep in the Terai, we stay at beautiful forest department rest houses in the core! This experience, as you wake up to the trumpets of elephants and the songs of a myriad of birds and go to bed listening to alarm calls of a hundred deer, shaken and nervous, is something you won't forget soon. The Terai's hold over you would be complete, would be eternal! Dudhwa is a true testimony to India's incredible natural beauty and the unimaginable amount of treasure it contains! Come, Dudhwa beckons!
