Spiti   (View All Batches)

Overview

Hidden far, far away from all civilization, beyond the great Shiwaliks and up and above the skies, lies India’s very own ‘Tibet’. Some call it ‘Spiti’, others call it ‘The Last Shangrila’. For us, it is the greatest and purest experience there ever was!

Gargantuan mountains, enchanting valleys adorned with crystal clear rivers originating from the great glacial melt off, electric blue lakes which would even put a thousand sapphires to shame and people so warm and loving that you wouldn’t want to leave this iconic wonderland, that is Spiti for you!

Beyond Wild’s fabled roadtrip, mastered over the last decade thanks to our many ramblings and experiences, continues to attract the hardcore traveller and nature lover! A week-long sojourn taking us through the green and verdant Kinnaur where grow the world’s best apples to the desolate and barren wonderland of Lahaul and Spiti, where lies the ethereal Chandertaal, the high and handsome monasteries at Key and Dhankar and a million scenes so dramatic that you’d forget everything else, to the bustling yet peaceful Himalayan towns of Shimla and Manali, this is the most complete Himalayan road trip ever!

Spiti is still extremely underdeveloped and that is what makes it so charming, so alluring, so sparsely populated! For hours at end, there is a chance you see no other soul, helping you connect with yours! ;)

In the days post COVID-19, nature is the best therapy. Is there a better place amidst pristine nature than Spiti, with a population density of 2 persons per square kilometer!

Come, Beyond Wild’s hospitality and the Spitian glory await you on this cult roadtrip!

Day 01
Chandigarh - Narkanda

On our arrival in Chandigarh, we have a sumptuous packed breakfast before driving the beautiful road to Narkanda, a quaint little hill station tucked up in the mountains. Over a hot dinner and a crackling campfire at our luxury camp, we will discuss the plan of action for the next week.

Stay at: Agyaat Vaas / similar.

Day 02
Narkanda - Kalpa

After a visit to the gorgeous Hatu peak at sunrise, we have breakfast and then move toward Kalpa. This is a magnificent drive taking you past dense jungles, crystal clear rivers, apple orchards and alongside Himalayan peaks growing in height and grandeur. Kalpa, nestled in the Satluj river valley is a town straight out of a fairytale!

Stay at: Grand Shambhala / similar.

Day 03
Kalpa - Tabo

After waking up to incredible views of the Himalaya from our rooms, we go to Van Vihar which is an amazing walk amidst dense deodar forests, then to circuit house to see living fossil trees. Following this, we drive toward Tabo. Kalpa to Tabo is a journey on the old Hindustan-Tibet highway, one of the most spectacular roads in the world, and so immaculately maintained by BRO, The Border Roads Organization. We drive past the confluence of the Spiti and Sutlej rivers, experience the transcendental transformation of green hills into desolate, treeless mountains and revel in the divinity that is the Himalaya. By late evening, we reach the small village of Tabo, where a steaming hot Tibetan lunch would await you.

Stay at: Maitreya Regency / similar.

Day 04
Tabo - Dhankar - Kaza

After a leisurely breakfast, we visit the iconic Dhankar monastery, one of the most breathtakingly beautiful architectural wonders in India! Following that, we drive the short yet marvellous journey to Kaza and in the evening go shopping in the mountain market, quite an experience!

Stay at: Sakya Abode / similar.

Day 05
Exploration around Kaza

Waking up and opening your eyes to the otherworldly beauty of the trans-Himalaya is something you will cherish for a lifetime! After a delicious breakfast, we visit the hallowed Key monastery, one of Buddhism's most sacred places. The panoramic views from atop the monastery would surely make you cry! Following the exploration of the monastery, we visit Langza, Komik and Hikim, the highest in the world, round-the-year inhabited villages between 4300-4650 meters.

Stay at: Sakya Abode / similar.

Day 06
Kaza to Chandertal

Having started early, we reach the Kunzum pass by noon. This pass divides the valleys of Spiti on one side and Keylong on the other side. Driving for an hour more leads us to the Chandetal, the 'moon lake', where we camp for the night. Chandertal is fascinating, mysterious and stunning. The trek to the lake and a walk along its side is sure to feature as one of the most liberating experiences of your life! Songs, campfire and stories at night would make for a lot of nostalgic memories!

Stay at: A deluxe tented campsite.

Day 07
Chandertal to Manali

Chandertal to Manali is a long yet extremely scenic journey. Along the way, we come across villages of Keylong, Ghondhla, Sissu and most importantly Tandi, the holy confluence of rivers - Chandra and Bhaga. Descending down from the high Himalaya to lower altitudes would make you feel lighter in the head and this experience for many, is the defining moment of a Himayalan road trip gone well! Party tonight!

Stay at: Fog Hills / similar.

Day 08
Manali to Chandigarh

The last leg of a memorable journey, we will relive the fascinating memories of the past week! By early evening, we shall reach Chandigarh and retire for the night.
